ABOUT
Jenn Whitney is a photojournalist, healer, artist, interior designer, teacher & entrepreneur.
In a world that is drowning in information while starving for wisdom, Jenn tells the stories of the most vulnerable and the most devoted. Her images not only shed light on hard to reach people and places and complex social issues, but also magnify the mission of nonprofits, healers, artists, and disrupters moving humanity and our planet towards solutions and sustainability.
Years of studying movement, meditation, and ceremonial arts bring a unique sensitivity and intimacy to her vision. Jenn sees beyond the surface with subtlety, travels gracefully between worlds, and reveals truth and humanness. She brings authenticity, consciousness, and compassion to each moment, weaving her healing work into a pioneering approach to visual storytelling with fierce discernment about stories that matter.
Learning to cook from her Southern grandma as a child, which sparked a lived experience of food as medicine, was a natural segway into documenting farm to table cuisine. Her artisan grasp of food was cultivated through years making a living waiting tables in cutting edge restaurants. Telling the stories of local heroes who grow, raise, and catch our nourishment, as well as the culture and community around food of all kinds brings her great joy.
Jenn’s long time passion for modernizing vintage spaces with functional, collected interior design and sustainable living are currently expressed via Chickasaw Homestead, a solar powered midcentury homesteader cabin on 5 wild acres in Joshua Tree. She invites guests to experience the peace and magic she found in the Mojave desert, and hosts community healing and creative experiences. Her next interior design projects include the restoration of an early 50’s Owosso Coach travel trailer.
She teaches conscious visual journalism to high school students in the NYA program in LA, and kundalini yoga & meditation workshops worldwide when the inspiration arises.
A fourth generation Floridian and adopted Texan, she’s now based in California's Eastern Sierra where the golden light never ceases to inspire. She’s worn bifocals since she was two and loves monster trucks, salvaged denim and small batch sundresses, green vegetables, and the great outdoors.
Jenn recently put a roof top tent on her truck, and spends as much time as possible off grid on the backroads swimming, hiking, rock hounding, and star gazing. She’s currently obsessed with textiles and learning to weave and quilt, target shooting, chasing the universal sound, and preparing her home for the arrival of a new puppy. Wherever she goes, she lives in devotion to kindness & service, elaborate salads & Texas-style nachos, finding beauty amidst grit, and honoring mother earth.
