The home was gutted by a fire that consumed the garage and spread throughout the house on Veteran's Day. Sanchez was the sole major Democratic candidate in the race to replace Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, before he announced his decision to drop out of the Texas race because of “pressing personal challenges” and a lack of funds.
